HARDWICK, VT, Oct. 28, 2016– Hardwick Elementary School students today revealed their school’s restored gymnasium floor during a community gathering. The celebration, which was open to the public, showcased the work of professional floor contractors from throughout the country who helped Vermont Natural Coatings and Norton Abrasives complete a full re-sand and re-finish with fresh game line paint and the image of a new school mascot at mid-court. The event featured the showing of a time-lapse video that chronicles the seven-day project.
A professional flooring contractor training event conducted by Vermont Natural Coatings and Norton turned the historic school gym into a working classroom as the 50-year-old space received its first repainting in two decades.
The gym serves as the focal indoor exercise area for the school as well as a community gathering space, serving as both a town meeting place and the voting venue. Mike Baker, the physical education teacher at Hardwick Elementary said, “Wow. It’s beautiful. I’m just so excited to show the kids.”
“What great feelings of pride and gratitude I have for all of these talented professionals who came here to help us refresh and renew this gym” said Andrew Meyer, president of Vermont Natural Coatings. “I played basketball on this floor, both my children have played on it, and now another generation in our community will get to enjoy it with the new look and expert finish work.”
Vermont Natural Coatings, manufacturer of PolyWhey® finishes, together with Norton Abrasives, an international market leader in professional floor abrasives, conduct training events in Vermont Natural Coatings’ facilities as well as in residential, commercial and school settings, nationwide. The training enables contractors to experience first-hand the benefits of using Vermont Natural Coatings and Norton products, while enhancing their skills under the instruction of Vermont Natural Coatings and Norton flooring professionals.
“We believe the on-site site application opportunities, coupled with the intensive work in the Vermont Natural Coatings Training Center, are the best environments for learning and sharing professional flooring experiences,” noted Bob Goldstein, Vermont Natural Coatings’ technical advisor.
