Learn more about bio-based products, their importance, what it means, and how you can contribute! ### What does 'bio-based' mean? 'Bio-based' means that a product was made up of naturally derived materials such as agricultural, forestry, and marine materials. In order for a product to be certified as bio-based, it must contain at least 25% bio-based content.  Vermont Natural Coatings uses whey protein, an agricultural material, and hemp oil, a forestry material, as ingredients in our USDA Certified Bio-Based Products. Both of these ingredients naturally occur and renew without causing any harm to our planet. ### Why buy bio-based? Purchasing USDA Certified Bio-Based products contributes to a cleaner, more sustainable world. Many products that you purchase contain harmful, toxic ingredients. By purchasing bio-based products, you are contributing to a greener planet.  ### Bio-Based & Vermont Natural Coatings Vermont Natural Coatings was founded with our revolutionary [PolyWhey® technology](https://vermontnaturalcoatings.com/polywhey-our-technology/), made out of whey protein. Our mission is to provide a safer way of coating wood without compromising the safety of you or our planet.  Using bio-based materials is important to us for the preservation of our planet and our people.  ##### Vermont Natural Coatings' BioPreferred® Products: [Hemp Oil Finish](https://vermontnaturalcoatings.com/product/hemp-oil-finish/) [PolyWhey® Furniture Finish](https://vermontnaturalcoatings.com/product/polywhey-furniture-finish/) [PolyWhey® Floor Finish](https://vermontnaturalcoatings.com/product/polywhey-floor-finish/) [Pure Matte Finish with PolyWhey®](https://vermontnaturalcoatings.com/product/pure-matte-finish-with-polywhey/) [Hydro Lacquer Reactive Sealer with PolyWhey®](https://vermontnaturalcoatings.com/product/hydro-lacquer-reactive-sealer-with-polywhey/)   ![IMG_9787](https://blog.vermontnaturalcoatings.com/hubfs/IMG_9787.jpeg) [Company News](https://blog.vermontnaturalcoatings.com/blog/tag/company-news), [Safety](https://blog.vermontnaturalcoatings.com/blog/tag/safety) ## Related posts [![the inn at round barn in waitsfield vermont floors coated with vermont natural coatings](https://blog.vermontnaturalcoatings.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Imported_Blog_Media/roundBarnimg.jpg?height=200&name=roundBarnimg.jpg)](https://blog.vermontnaturalcoatings.com/blog/the-inn-at-the-round-barn) [VNC Projects](https://blog.vermontnaturalcoatings.com/blog/tag/vnc-projects) ## [The Inn at the Round Barn](https://blog.vermontnaturalcoatings.com/blog/the-inn-at-the-round-barn) [Roxanne Brault](https://blog.vermontnaturalcoatings.com/blog/author/roxanne-brault) Jan 31, 2023 11:01:25 AM The Inn at the Round Barn Farm in Vermont’s iconic Mad River Valley needed to refinish floors in...
